Nirvana

urt Cobain and Krist Novoselic met in the mid-'80s in their hometown of Aberdeen, Washington USA, a rural logging community 100 miles away from Seattle; they were at the core of the band that later became the most influential and distinctive in Grunge and Alternative-Rock history.
The two began performing as Stiff Woodies with Cobain on drums, Novoselic on bass and whoever happened to be around on guitar.

By 1987 Cobain moved to vocals and guitar, drummer Chad Channing was added to the line-up and they were officially christened Nirvana; two years later the trio released their debut album, "Bleach".
In September of 1990 Dave Grohl replaced Channing on drums and the trio entered the studio with producer Butch Vig to record the memorable "Nevermind", the first single, "Smells Like Teen Spirit", rose to #6 on The Billboard Hot 100, peaked at #1 on Modern Rock Tracks chart and helped the album break The Billboard Top 200 chart reaching the #1 slot, "Nevermind" also stormed up charts all over the globe; an endless string of Mainstream and Modern Rock hit singles followed: "Come As You Are" reached the #3 on both the charts, "In Bloom" crashed into the top 5 of the Active Rock list, "Lithium" made top 20 and "On A Plain" ranked in the top 30 of the Modern Rock chart.
In late 1992 the band released "Incesticide", a compilation of b-sides, rarities and live cuts, the collection cracked the top 40 of The Billboard 200 Albums chart and the sole single release, "Sliver", entered the top 20 of The Modern Rock Tracks chart.
During the spring of 1993, after Cobain married Courtney Love, the leader of the band Hole, Nirvana recorded its fourth full-length album, "In Utero", which became an instant #1 on The Billboard Top 200 chart and it generated two #1s Modern Rock singles: "Heart-Shaped Box" and "All Apologies".
After taped an episode of MTV's unplugged series, the band issued "MTV Unplugged In New York" in all 1994, going straight to #1 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart; the single "About A Girl" shot to #1 on The Modern Rock chart, "The Man Who Sold The World" peaked at #6 in the same chart and "Lake Of Fire" made top 30 on The Mainstream Rock Tracks list; eventually the album was awarded a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance in 1995.
But the story of Nirvana tragically ended; rumors of Cobain's heroin use were ever-present, he suffering from manic depression, on April 8, 1994, Kurt Cobain was found in his Seattle home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Following Cobain's death, Dave Grohl formed Foo Fighters and released its self-titled debut album in 1995; in October of 1996 was issued the posthumous Nirvana live-set, "From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah", which includes 16 songs spanning the band's career, the compilation debuted at #1 in U.S. Top 200 chart, around that time the single "Aneurysm" reached the #11 on Mainstream Rock chart.
The collection "Nirvana" arrived in October 2002 peaking at #3 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and featuring the previously unreleased track "You Know You're Right", which rose to the #1 spots on both the Modern and Mainstream Rock charts upon its release.
